Nestled among the vineyards in Canada’s picturesque Niagara Region is a small studio on Pancake Lane.
Pancake Lane Studios represents the dedication and artistic expression of a husband and wife: David, who creates unique copper creations, and Patricia, who prefers to make her statements with paint and pottery. Their creative paths cross on occasion, usually when Patricia incorporates copper pieces into her handcrafted clay necklaces and pendants.
Years ago, David discovered a passion for working with wire and pieces of metal, especially copper. The earthiness and warmth of copper appealed to him and lent itself easily to his craft. His horizons have also been expanded with forays into metal art and blacksmithing.
Drawing from a colourful Russian background, David’s creative spirit has a long family history. His ancestors included blacksmiths, tailors, shoemakers and other craftsmen. The simple beauty of this Russian peasant history is brought to life in his designs. David uses centuries-old techniques to create a sense of breathtaking romance in each and every piece.
Extensive travel in recent years has improved David and Patricia’s appreciation of other cultures and broadened their artistic horizons. During a recent trip to Russia, they brought back several select pieces of genuine Kaliningrad amber which have been incorporated into some copper pieces.
In the past, Pancake Lane Studios copper jewelery has been sold at boutiques in Stratford and Bayfield, Ontario. Although these boutiques increased the visibility of these unique copper creations, the sale of items in boutiques effectively doubled the final cost to the consumer. This website represents a way to share the warmth and artistic intimacy of beautiful handcrafted copper and clay with those who appreciate it the most – while remaining accessible, convenient and, since there is no middleman, affordable.
